After Tune Up Car Wont Start

Replaced distributor cap and rotor, replaced plug and wires. Now the car wont start. Checked all the wires to make sure there in the right spots, pulled cap and rotor and inspected those. Everything seems to be right. The car was starting fine before but it just had a miss. I thought this tune up would take care of it. I can get the car to start if i retard the timing alot but then it misses really bad and wont idle. Any suggestions or ideas please help?

Oh and its a 85 z28 with a 305 TPI.

Ok i found out what it was. Theres a lil clip inside the cap that plugs the power wire into the side. I forgot to put that metal piece in there so it wasnt getting power. replaced it and it starts and runs.

Still getting a misfire after doing plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Any ideas?

Re: After Tune Up Car Wont Start

go by the principle that cars need air, fuel, spark, compression, and proper timing to work.

I am going to assume that you are getting proper spark not sure how to further test for that. If you know that you are getting good power to all of your plugs check and make sure none of the plugs are broken i had once after changing my plugs where you could grab the porcelain or whatever its made of part and spin it, so clearly i broke it putting it in.

And am also going to assume that your motor is getting air and you have compression.

This leaves us with fuel. You can check the pressure at the regulator with a fuel pressure tester. You can also test to make sure you dont have a dieing injector, disconnect the wire that goes to the injector, and using a multimeter see how much resistance you get when touching the two prongs. I believe it should be around 18 i really forget but check them all and if one if way low you obviously have a dieing injector.

Only other thing i can think of would be to get a timing light and make sure your timing is proper.

Ok i think i found the problem. And im guessing its not a miss at all. But a sticky valve possibly broken or damaged valve spring. It gets really loud under the driver side valve cover and it pops at high rpms. Im gonna take the cover off and inspect.
