cam retaining plate year?
what year did chevy start putting cam retaining plates on SBCs? I've got a '92 crate engine that was made for an '85 or earlier car and I want to make sure I ordered the right cam for it

Same year they started putting roller cams in them- 1987.
If the motor you got is specifically designed for an 85-down application it will be the old style flat-tappet cam block (no retaining plate).
