? about timing & timing tab

Does anybody have a picture of the timing tab that shows the #'s? The #'s on my dads 86 Iroc cant be read. Also on the underhood sticker it says the timing should be 6 degrees DR. What does the "DR" stand for?

Re: ? about timing & timing tab

It should read 6 degrees BTDC or "Before Top Dead Center".("advanced")
And the "0" on the tab is the largest valley notch, and each point going counterclockwise is in 4 degree increments. 0, 4, 8, 12 "advanced"...the valleys between the peaks are, 2, 6, 10.
On the other side (clockwise from "0") is 4, 8 degrees "retarded"
And you must disconnect the single tan wire with black stripe timing connector on the main harness above the heater-blower, when setting timing.

If the car is fuel injected. Carbed cars you must disconnect the large 4 pin connector leading to the distributor that's usually wedged between the block and firewall.

This is telling you to have the vehicle in "drive" when adjusting the idle speed, not the timing.
