Question 90 RS tranny problems

i have a 90 RS. Its got a 305 with the 700r4 tranny. the transmission acts like it dosent want to shift out of first gear when i mash it from a stop. it also wont shift after i get up to about 85 mph....it just sits at about 5000 to 6000 rpm. my cousin told me that the servos that control the shifting might be bad....does anyone have any advice, should i get a new tranny.....or try to replace the servos.

thanks
chris

mine does the same thing, does yours shift if it's slightly below full throttle?....i've gotten pretty good at gas shifting but i know that isn't too good for the trans. i've had people tell me that it could also be the throttle cable that's the problem also. i still haven't figured it out.

Sounds like you cable may be out of adjustment.

Re: 90 RS tranny problems

yeah it usually shifts fine during normal drivin....except for the occasional unnecessary downshift. most of the time itll sit at high rpm for about 5 secs then shift.
