9 bolt swap with lt1 brakes, what e-brake cables

I am getting ready to install a 9-bolt rear in my bird, I bought LT1 brakes off here but no emergency brake cables. Should I use 9 bolt or 4th gen cables? If either will fit I think 4th gens will be easier to find and cheaper. Is there anyway my stock drum cables will fit?

thanks
Brett

The question isn't cables, just the cable ends. if they wont connect, just change the ends on your stock cables.

One question for you: Are you sure that the 4th gen Disc brakes will bolt up to the 9-bolt mounting backing plate???? Your other question, if they work make sure to use the 4th Gen parking brake cables.

I was told they would fit and I figured if they didn't I can do some sort of modification if needed. The only thing I didn't get was cables. I haven't even started unpacking the brake stuff from the box so I have no Idea as of yet. I believe I have the ten bolt backing plates. I will start unpacking stuff tuesday and take a look.

Thanks guys

Just my opinion, but you are going to have big problems installing those brakes. For starters, a 9-bolt rear, 4th gen brakes, and how 10-bolt backing plates. Not your most common or compatible parts to bolt on. You are going to be fabbing a lot and then it may not work. And whoever told you it would is full of BS. Also your parking brake cable is not your big problem. Good Luck trying to sell those parts.

Horses***.

The LT1 rear calipers are identical to the PBR calipers that came on the '89 and up 3rd gens. If you had a 10-bolt they would bolt right on, but for the 9-bolt mounting flange I think you'll need to do a small amount of chop/drill work to the caliper bracket.

The biggest thing you have to watch out for is getting the caliper cage centered on the rotor. Usually you'll have to put a shim or 2 between the caliper bracket and axle flange. It's a very good idea to test assemble the cages and rotors before you put the axle seals in to make sure the cages are centered. Then, once you have the shims worked out, put in the seals and bolt it all in for good. Make sure you use threadlock on the flange-bracket bolts.

Also, you'll need the LT1 e-brake cables. Your stock drum cables are too short in addition to having the wrong linkage end.

Good luck, let us know how you like them.

So I just unpacked everything rather quikly before work and after reading your post I believe I get it. The rear is out of an 87 I believe, defently before 89 though. Do I have to yank the axles out to get the ten bolt plates back behind them? If so how hard it is it to yank the axles? Either way I guess the LT1 calipers won't fit in the stock 9 bolt location with out some modification either way I look at it. "The greatJ" I may want to email you to ask you questions if that is possible. Is there anything else I should know or that I have incorrectly? Thanks for most of the replies everyone, some of it helps.

Thanks
Brett

Good Luck on your Brake Project. Just hope that your car is not your daily driver. Give a update on your Project.

The axles are retained by plates outside the housing. You don't even have to remove the diff cover to pull them out, but you won't be able to 'till you get the brake hardware off obviously.

Feel free to email me, or look for ThGreatJ on AIM and shoot me a line. Later,
