87 TPI heads, angled?

Ok what type of heads are my 87' TPI? They are angled correct?

So angled and straight are the only kind around?

How can i tell by looking which they are?

Basically I have to go searching for heads for the 350 im gonna build, and id like to use my TPI so i need heads that will work with it.

If you want stock GM heads you can get some L98 heads for your 350, get them ported and polished and a good 3 angle valve job,for a little more money there are tons of other aftermarket heads to use too, AFR, Pro Topline, World Castings,TrickFlow, just do a search, and I believe you should have regular straight plug heads on your 305, just look at the spark plugs, if they all point straight at the fenders they are straight plug heads, if the front and rear sets of plugs angle towards each other they are angle plug heads. Don't use those 305 heads on a 350 if you want any kind of power, the valves are smaller.

The angled wording you're thinking of is the angled intake bolts, the 2 center intake bolt holes on each head are angled differently on the 87+ TPI heads. There are work arounds for this (wallowing out the hole on the intake) or using a intake that works with both types of head. Most of the aftermarket TPI intakes work either work on either, or are available seperately for either head. The usual Straight/Angle status you read about for aftermarket heads has to do with the spark plug hole angles. Most all factory heads I know of are straight plug, the TPI heads included.

I would go AFR. I would consider Trick Flow heads if I needed a doorstop or a PWC anchor. By the time you get them polished and ported etc, you would be better off with the AFR heads

I have heard real good feed back on Vortec heads with the SDPC baseplate.

There was also a thread on thirdgen how to port your 305 heads to flow 420HP!

Vortec heads are good for the money, with two consideration. Those are iron heads and heavier and less conuctive of heat. Secondly, you have to get the manifold from SDPC. No others will fit for EFI and I hate to force myself to be hooked to one maker for life.
