Unhappy '87 IROC stalling.............

Its an '87 IROC with the LB9 motor. Its been running fine for quite some time now, and out of the blue just started actin up. I ran out to Walmart to pick some stuff up, car ran fine all the way there. After that, I stopped at a gas station to pick up some Red Bull, car ran fine to there too. Got back in the car and tried to start her up and it would stall as soon as the engine turned over. It did it about 3 more times until finally I tried giving it a little gas as soon as it turned over and it stayed started and was fine all the way home. Next day it started right up, I moved some stuff over to my new place, it started right up when I left there. Later on that night I left to get some dinner. When I left Boston Market, she stalled again upon starting. I tried starting her up again and she started right up like nothing was wrong, except this time the SES light came on, but she ran fine all the way home. Anybody have any ideas?? How can I find out what the code is without having one of those handheld computer diagnostics? I remember hearing you could do it with a paper clip....

mine did something similar...ended up being my fuel filter. Has that been changed recently? Could be something minor like that seeing as how you have to give it gas for it to stay running.

Get it running one night and use a bottle spray and spray fine mist onto the plug wires. Those could be bad. If it looks like a light show under the hood, you need new wires.

How are your plugs, cap and rotor? Also, how are you injectors? Are they clean?
