87 IROC 350 to TPI
87 IROC 350 to TPI
hey guys,
i have an 87 Iroc with the 350.. The motor only has 20,000 on it. right now its got an edelbrock manifold, holley carb and edelbrock airfilter.. do you guys think its worth putting a TPI on? or if i can even do that? I've been reading around and I see people say the TPI has MUCH MORE power.. let me know. i mean, my car is no where near weak or stock. Pretty much the only thing that is stock on it, are the exhuast manifolds, which are to be changed soon, and the ignition box. I have a new distributor, plugs and wires already.
let me know.. i mean is it going to be a lot of trouble to do this or what?
Where can i get the kit

Re: 87 IROC 350 to TPI
Switching to stock TPI is more work than its worth. Will make good torque- ok horsepower. Aftermaket runners, base, etc can run into big $. If you want fuel injection, look into complete holley stealth ram kit or something similar.

you can make more horsepower and torque for way cheaper with a carb.
The things that make EFI cars more desireable is the ability to fine tune with computers as well as they are a little bit more reliable as the computer will compensate for humidity and altitude where as with a carb you have to tune manually for every day to get the best performance.
TPI in its self is crappy, just way too restrictive the engine with it falls flat on its face above 4500 rpms and is starting to get out of peak power after 4000. You can port it and make it flow better but youre still better off with a stealth ram/super ram/mini ram.
Think about it tho, for the cost of buying new fuel rails, injectors, i think a new fuel pump, the intake, the wiring harness etc. you could buy a new cam, new heads/port the heads you have, and get a slightly bigger carb and be making some serious serious power.

yeah. well its got a 350 sb ..only 20,000 on it.. i dont even know if theres stuff done to the heads. Ill have to look at that.
What kinda carb do you suggest? i have the Holley Street Avenger, but i know thats not the best. and the Edelbrock Manifold, and edelbrock air filter..
oh yeah, you are talking about ram. what would i have to buy for that? let me knwo.
