87 gta trans am

hi guys, new here, and in a bind. Just traded my nissan for a 87 gta(might be a fake ) . anyway the 700r4 in it was blown, so i put in a turbo 350 that came with the deal and the driveshaft is too short. then i got a driveshaft out of a nova, had it cut and welded.....yep you know it....dosent match up to the rearend. Is there a driveshaft out of another car that will bolt right up? right length and all? Might it be easier to just have the 700r4 rebuilt?

Thanks in advance.....didnt know where to go for help, some guys from yahoo! messenger sent me here

as far as i know the only car that is going to have exactly what you need is an '82 camaro or firebird/transam with an auto w/od i think its a 200 metric tranny. youll probably have better luck getting one from an s-10 or something and having it cut down. but youll also have to use a torque arm adapter, shifter and such. unless your doing more racing than daily driving i would go with rebuilding the 700r4 and enjoying the better gas mileage. good luck! hope this helps

I'd go rebuild the 700R4. Talk to www.rosslertrans.com which will be a quality rebuild. It lasted me for 3.5 years beating on it with my 383. What you will save (if any) by using the 350, you will lose in mileage if you cruise because you have no overdrive

You may be able to get a u-joint with two patterns to get it shaft to bolt up to diff. I've done it when installing a Chevy 12 bolt under a Cutlass and a late 70's T/A rear under my 71 Camaro. Our local shaft shop also carries u-joints, so maybe the place where you had yours cut can help you. If not, take the two sizes you need to Pep Boys and see if they will look through their inventory. That's how I got the u-joint for the T/A diff swap.

In the long run you'll be better off with the 700, but at least you can get your GTA going.

Another vote for the 700r4. If you're tight on cash, you could check the wrecking yards for one. Or the for sale sections of various boards.

GTA=Gran Turismo Americano, which in english is Grand touring america i believe.

88 GTA would usually go for about 5500-6500 around here,if its in great shape. www.gtasourcepage.com is a great place to learn stuff about them.Very cool cars.
