im guessing your RS is a TBI?
do u know what the computer is out of,like a TPI car,TBI car, carb car...u need to find out. if it came out of a TPI car i doubt it will work b/c in 87 they had a MAF and i dont think a 92 TBI does.

The computer is out of an '87 IROC 305 TPI....and somebody told me that it wouldn't make a difference that the '87 was MAF b/c only the TPI cars for '92 were considered Speed Density.....Only question I really need answered is if the computer will work with my electronic speedometer?????

Why don't you get off a few bucks and just buy a new ECM that you can change if needed. I am sure that it can't be that expensive

I really don't think it will work. Camaros didn't get electronic speedos until 89 or 90.

Like everyone else said, the harnesses are completely different. There's no MAF in the TBI car, or other TPI specific sensors. There was a guy selling his TBI harness on TGO for $70 yesterday.

I am sorry to give you the gad news you are **** out of luck it will not work. You need the proper ecm for your aplication which you can get out of any car that is TBI. The person who told you it will work is wrong.

Yep, computers are totally different.
I program both the LO3 and TPI. I don't know if the connectors are different though, maybe they plug in the same and that is why the person thought they may interchange.

I do know that the 90-92 ECMs have 3 connectors vs the 2 connectors that the LO3 and 85-89 TPI have.

find the guy who told u it will work...slap him w/ the ECM and get ur money back, and buy a computer that WILL work...such as 1 from a Camaro atleast a 90 or so (i think 90 is when they got the elect. speedo...as well as the airbag, but im not 100% sure about the speedo, sorry). It has to come out of a TBI car so it will have the same sensors and stuff like that.

hope that helps

That most recent bit of information is slightly important. It raises a whole new slew of questions. I.e. what year is the TPI setup? If it's a MAF setup are you converting to SD or keeping the MAF? Is it a 350 or 305 TPI system that you're using? There's other stuff but the presence of a MAF/elec. VSS and the question of injector constants and knock sensor type are the biggest issues. Without answers to these questions, there's no way to tell if it will work or not.

You should have said you were going to go with a TPI setup from teh beginning.
86-92 TPI ECMs will work with your cars Electronic speedo, so you won't have any issues with that.

But with a MAF ECM, you'll need a MAF harness and a MAF sensor to make it work. Also going from an "87 to a '92 the cooling sensor/fan switches will be different, later models regulated fan operation by the ECM not fan switches. Also '87 still used the cold start injector while the '88-ups integrated "cold start" into the pulses for all 8 injectors, so you'll need an '85-'87 TPI intake.

Actually, it's 89 and up that the CSI and CSS were removed.
