Question 86 z28 options

Just wondering what was available on my 86 Z28. I know its got the 305 tpi, but I read in another topic that 2 differant 305 tpi's were available, one with 30 something more hp. It has the 145 speedo. Just trying to find out more about my new f-body, well, new to me.

The 1986 Z28's base engine was the 305 carb (RPO LG4). For a mere $695, you could opt for the 305 TPI (RPO LB9). This was the only engine option available on the 1986 Z28. It was rated at 190 hp. A mandatory option with the 305 TPI was the automatic tranny (another $465) as no TPI's were produced with the 5-speed in 1986.

Starting in 1987, there were two variants of the 305 TPI. The 190 hp version was used in all automatic equipped cars. The 215 hp 305 was used with all 5-speed cars.

The 145-mph speedo was introduced in the late 1986 model production Z28's with the 305 TPI. It was also used in the 1987 and later 305 and 350 TPI's. It was never used with the 305 carb (LG4).

On the IROC Homepage (http://iroc.fbody.com) under the "tech" section, I've got the RPO codes listed for 85-90 camaros. You can use that list to see what options were available and which ones your car had. There's also plenty of other technical information (such as engine horsepower numbers, and even camshaft specs) on the site.
