Ok guys my little bro is about to buy his first car is is looking at an 86 TA with a 305 TPI i know that the 87 and up f-body's came with roller cams and center bolt heads and if my memory serves me right the 86 came with a flat tapet cam and perimeter bolt heads. also i know if it came with the roller cam then an LT1 cam is a good upgrade (not the best but better then stock) can i replace the flat tapet cam with a roller (ala LT1 cam) with out any major probs obviously i will need to lifters but is there anything else that i would need to so the swap any help would be great.

 

You can't just pull the roller lifters out of a late-model block and use them because the '86 block isn't made to mount the lifter retainers. You could get a roller lifter retrofit kit, but they're expensive.
