86 restoration

Hello I am new to this forum and sot of new to the car fixing world. I recently picked up my first car an 86 camaroZ28. It has a running 305 in it. I need help with some rust on the car.

The fenders are rusted but I am buying new ones. The bottom of the doors and the quarter panels are rusted also. I dont want to buy new doors. How would I go about repairing it? After sanding it down should I use bondo? Is there anything better than bondo that will hold up longer? Thanks!

the rear quarters arent removable, they have to be cut and welded in

welding the metal around where the rust was cut out is the only way to do it right.

new doors ie used ones from the wreckers that dont have any rust would be cheaper than having yours fixed unless they arent rusted too bad.... you could get doors cheap

oh and if your rear quartes are rusted check your rocker panels, they are probably weak and they have to be welded in as well

A company called Por 15 makes a highly regarded rust paint which they guarantee will stop rust from ever reappearing. Check them out, they usually have an ad in every hot rod mag.

Hey man, My Z is an 85 and it sounds like we had the same problem. Bondo is gonna have to be the only way to go unless you can weld really good or pay for a pro body shop to do it for you. I cut out sections and welded and patched. It toom me about 4 months working 5 hour a day to restore the body 100 percent on my Iroc. But now she is in the paint shop and trust me its well worth it to see your finished product. All I can tell you is good luck, get an orbital sander, and wear dust masks, lol. Rust blows man...
