now I know what your thinking, but my LG4 is modded to hell lol, so stock it`s not.

Now I have an 90 GTA it`s 95% stock all it has is a K&N and a Vortex muffler thats it, it`s a 350 TPI dual cat car with a 3:27 9bolt. she is fast and holly god does she ever stick in the turns, she`d rule in a road course. but in the 1/4 mile would she pull on my Z28, going by feel I`d say no way but sotp feel don`t cut it. I`ve never been to a track so I don`t know what either car will run, but I`ve been told my Z28 should run 13`s, I don`t know though.

My baby (Z28) is a T-5 car 3:23 posi, and had P255/60R15 Goodyear GT II`s

these 2 cars are like night and day, the Z28 felt like a man`s car, she was loud and very agressive, would smoke the tires with ease and rev to 7000, I`d shift her at 6200 for the most power. in the Zed you knew you were going fast. she was somwhat of a pain to drive but VERY fun.

My GTA, I feel like I should be wearing a suit or something driving this car, my friend shane fell asleep in her when I was going 160 km/h, you can`t feel the speed in this car, she SO COMFY to drive, I could drive her ALL DAY long no prob. you can`t spin the tires, she just hooks and hooks hard. the down fall with the GTA yes she fast, has an insane top end and is as comfy as a caddy and you can still carve corners like a vette, but has almost no fun facter. it`s like she was buit for people who want to go fast but can`t drive so the GTA drives for them lol, my Z28 you HAVE TO DRIVE her if you don`t your sideways.

going by the mods the cars have which really is faster in the 1/4???

well at 160 km/h she`s just getting started, the most I`ve done with her was 210 km/h and she was still pulling and my buddy with a 89 GTA did 220 km/h and he said it was still pulling when he shut it down, they came with Z rated tires for a reason. so yes they have one hell of a top end, I know my stock GTA would pass the 220 mark on the speedo, which is alittle less then 140 mph which is f`in fast. they run out at 4700 rpm`s so in 4th I`m guessin she`d top out at 150 mph. or close to it.

 

I just saw that you are from Canada. I was wondering why you were saying km/h...Makes me wanna go downstairs and look at my speedo to see how fast your talkin about. Ive owned 3rd gens and TPI does not have monster top end at all. They make pavement shredding torque at the line, thats what they do.They fall flat on their face at or just under 5000rpm. Yes you can top it out, yes at over 100mph it is still accelerating, and compared to another 3rd gen, or the cars that were around you at the time, ya you were still picking up speed. Go drive an LS1 and tell me you still think the same of that "top end".

Although what Ive always noticed as far as feel from F-Bodies. The Camaro seems to have a more raw accelartion feeling, while TA's go just as fast, they seem to glide and you dont really feel the same speed. I dont know why. Maybe the aerodynamics of it

Anyway if you want more topend, ditch the TPI and pick up a stealth ram setup, that way it will fit under your stock hood too. If not, at least get to work on that intake, its a HUGE holdback on those motors. SDPC has some stuff, TPIS, Edelbrock, and SLP. Even on your modded Camaro, you would notice a HUGE difference.

 

man if I drove a LS1 I`d forget about any 3rd gen lol, the LS1`s are gods, I know my L98 isn`t going to compare to a LS1. 98+ Z28 and SS top out at 160 mph because the computer shuts them down. I`m sure a SS would be almost as fast as the 175mph C5 coupe.

now I`m not talking about the LS1`s, I`m talking L98`s yes your right they make enuff torque to turn the world off the line. but up top L98`s pull for all there worth, you can tell they make alot of torque because it just seems like they keep pulling. yes I know a LS1 camaro would pull harder but LS1`s weren`t around in 1990.

so 145+ mph top end I stand by what I said they have an insane topend, I bet a 5L Mustang can`t do that.

I like my GTA just as it is and being 1 of 259 Candian cars it`s VERY rare, so I`m not touching her. GM knew what the hell they were doing when they made the 90 GTA

 

Damn, they only made 259 up there? Well, I dont know how many they made here, so blah. Ya keep it original, or at least if you modify it, dont do anything you cant undo, and keep the old parts. Example: Superchargers can be taken off

Stock for stock, Im bettin on the GTA, but as they sit now, the Camaro. And hey, I just gave you some tips for your next round of mods for it

 

the LG4 may feel faster because of the lighter weight of the car. The GTA is the fat brother of the 3rd gens, also the tires and suspension set up may be what makes it feel different. If i remember correctly the GTA got a different suspension set up that was suposedly more efficient, as well as thicker sway bars and a few other things. Now i know that the L98 may not have the top end of a LS1 but ive had my 1989 Formula 350 to 150~mph but as fast as it will go with the 3.73 gears is about 155-160 max. Idont see a modded LG4 beating an L98 but with their age, and depending on the model each will be different.

 

TPI sucks for horsepower. Mine made 202rwhp/302tq. With 3.73 gears, it is a 1/8 mile car....

 

I had my old 85 Z28 down to 12.8 in the 1/4, right before I junked it. I still had an all stock intake, except for the throttle body. I had a hot cammed crate motor, massive tranny work, 3000 stall, and posi with gears. That was on street slicks too of course, but hey, it did it. I wonder what I coulda pulled with a little intake work?

 

IMHO, it "sounds like" your Z28 would be faster but there is only one real way of finding out........run them both at the track on the same night, same driver (you).

ive only raced a few since the car has been running. havnt raced any cammed or sprayed ones yet. guy here in STL has a beast of an LS1. just bolt ons and a set of 4.10s and he was hitting low 12s. He just bought a stall, but hasnt made any runs yet.
