Post '82 Z28 questions

I'm probably going to buy an '82 Z28 with the 305 and 4sp manual tranny. Does anyone have any info about these cars??? I won't be changing out the engine for a 350 anytime soon, so what are my options as far as heads(will any of the newer style L98 or ZZ4 heads match up), intake(what type to get), cam(is it a hydrolic cam, will a ZZ4 or LT1 cam fit?), headers...ect. It looks like it will need all the gaskets replaced, so while I'm at it, I want to go ahead and change out all of those things. I know this is a general question, but I would like some info about this car, I wanna pick it up before my funds dry up. Thanks...later

Forgot to add, I'm getting this car for a really cheap price(around $100). It runs, but a freaze plug blew out, the radiator has a bad leak, and the engine just looks like it needs to be rebuilt. The cat was taken off and some sort of off-road pipe was welded on. The body is in great shape, ready for paint, the interior needs some work, but not too bad. Is it worth even getting??? I know it's hard to give advise without seeing it, but any advise i greatly appreciated...thanks

Um, yeah...if you don't buy it, I will.
I have an '84 Z. The rad only set me back $272 Canadian installed taxes included, and that was heavy duty rad. If the car runs, the rest you can do over time. Sound like an awsome deal. Oh, and my Dynomax Super Conveter was (just a sec while I grab the receipt..) $175 Canadian. You've got a great project car there by the sounds of it. I'd say go for it!

Whats up man I have an 82 z28 as well mine came with a carb 305 though at late modle throttal body heads is it the original 305 with cross fire injection ??? most heads adn cam shoudl work as far as i know jus make sure u know the specs about your heads first before you choose a cam like your valve springs compression and that stuff you can go to mortech.com to look yours up jus take off teh valve cover and try to find the casting numbers they should be about 6 or 7 digits long about the headers all third adn fourth gen f-bodies have to have special ones if this is that budget id find em off of ebay hope this helps later dude

No, it has a carb. I didn't look very close, but I'm sure its a Q-Jet. Just wondering if the new style heads will still fit, using a carb set-up. I'm deffinatly using the budget approach, so I'm gonna check e-bay for heads and intake deals. I already got a cam, an Lt1 and ZZ4, but I would like to know if it would work. I'll get new lifters, springs, and roller rockers and maybe new pushrods and of course headers. What I'd like to do is use fastburn or L98 heads, upgrade the intake, ZZ4 or LT1 cam, roller rockers, headers..ect. Just need to know if it would work. This is a 305, will the 350(L98 ect heads) work??? and on a carb set up???

Your proboly going to have to redrill the holes so your intake will bolt on if you get heads ment for a 86 later sbc.

Later model cylinder heads will bolt to the block, but require a different intake due to the bolt pattern. Probably best to go with a crate motor. $100? I'll take five.
