82 camaro with big block project

Me and my cuz are about to start a nice lil project. The project is a 82 camaro stripped down everything striped that wasnt needed even had a fibbrglass front end.Well hear is the plans we picked up a 79 trans-am with a 455 and a 350 turbo tranny. The plans are to fab the 82 camaro to take the 455 and 350 tranny.I know we are going to have to weild new mounts and and buy a nother driveshaft, and i m guessing we are going to have to makie a crossmeber .The good thing is the car is a strip and somenights on the street so we can go pretty crazy with this thing i cant wait makes it hard to sleep at night for me lol.Well any feedback is welcomed and if anyone done this swap before let me know i will keep everyone infourmed.'

Re: 82 camaro with big block project

I'm assuming this 455 is a Pontiac engine? There is no such thing as a big block or small block Pontiac. The engine dimensions are the same for all displacements of Pontiac. They just changed the bore and stroke to get different displacements.

You can swap anything into anything if you want but since there's no easy conversion kit to drop a Pontiac/Olds/Buick engine into a third gen although the conversion has been done on a few cars. Everything will have to be fabricated. Mounts, plumbing, exhaust will need to be custom made. By the time you're don't it might be cheaper to just drop in a 454 Chev.

Re: 82 camaro with big block project

This isnt the 1st big block pontiac droped into a camaro from us.Only thing we would have to fab is motor mounts and crossmenber this car will be a open header car.So the cost of the big block is 250 for the whole trans am and we are selling whatever we dont use on it so we are going to spend less then 1,000 easy,If i did the 454 i have no clue havnt found one for under 500 yet and then we will need a tranny so i m thinkin this is the cheapest way to go for now and something diff

Re: 82 camaro with big block project

actually there is a site that has the proper headers for the conversin (typical 455 headers run into suspension), they also have the motor mounts to put it into a 3rd gen..heres the site just click on the parts and enjoy a lil bit of ease from fabrications... http://gallery.bcentral.com/Gallery/...58&Dept=115929

look under motor mount adapters and header sections...

thirdgen.org also has in their message forums a section on swaping 455's into 3rd gens on there site, so u might wanna check that out as well for tips.
