700r4 speedo bounce-electric

alright, i got a bouncing speedo and i know it's not the gear
it's the shaft that holds the gear
can anyone tell me what the proper name of the shaft that holds it is, and how much does it cost to replace?
will i need a whole new unit or just the shaft that the gear spins on?
thanks in advance

edit: to give you more info, the whole gear came off and i noticed when my speedo wouldnt read at all
me and my uncle pulledi t apart and found out that the shaft didnt want to hold the gear on it so we ghetto rigged it sort of (which worked fine) but we noticed the whole shaft wobbles so i just wanted to know the name of the part and how much it is
it's not a big deal and i don't want to spend a lot of money on my v6 since i should be getting a z28 soon
i'm sure it won't cost much but, i just want to be sure
thanks

now, this was in the drivetrain forum but i think most people who visit are 4th genners so...what do you expect?
anways, thought i'd post here since i'm sure somebody has had this problem
thanks in advance
let's not let this thread sink to the bottom

Are you sure the drive gear is good? How about trying another drive gear. The gear is plastic so it should give before the output shaft will. To change the output shaft, you might have to take the tranny apart so I doubt it is worth it if that is what I am thinking of. At least that was the way on the C4 tranny I put into a car.

I think he's talking about the speed sender shaft and not the output shaft in the transmission.

If that's the case, you'll just have to buy a whole new speed sender. Parts stores should have them and they shouldn't be too pricey (not sure as I can't remember having to buy one.)

yea, we took out just the speed sender thing (don't know its formal name)
the gear is fine, no teeth missing, looks like it was brand new (save for the tranny fluid on it)
yea, it's just that shaft that's in the speed sender
well, i guess i'll start looking around for that then
hopefully someone can tell me a price
thanks for the help guys (way more than i got at drivetrain forum )
