Question 700R4 question

I'm feeling kind of dumb for not remembering this, especially since it's been right on the "tip of my brain" for the last several days, but what the hell..

What part is the most likely culprit when your 700R4 hangs in one gear too long when you're at WOT? I seem to recall that it's a valve of some sort, & it's not too expensive or difficult to replace...

And I know that when someone tells me what it is, I'm going to get all pi$$ed at myself for not remembering...

i dunno what its called, but i know my car does that too, and thats not very good if you got TPI, cause my car revs up to almost 6 grand at WOT before it shifts, and TPI falls flat on its face between 4500 and 5000...

i was just joking above, my car likes to hang in second gear too long too. would a shift kit help aside from rebuilding the tranny all together?

No doubt, no doubt, but it (and I) are both suffering from a bit of "lack-o-fundage-itis"!!

Thanks again for the answers, guys - you rock!

If I were you, I'd start with the TV valve & see if it fixes it. You can always spend more later!

Also, my understanding is that a shift kit is a great idea - as long as your tranny's in pretty good shape to begin with! If it's not, then it could aggravate the existing problem(s).

Basically, what a shift kit does is to make the bands & clutches engage more quickly, thus lessening the "rubbing" that they do as they're engaging. Most people like a tranny that shifts so smoothly that they barely feel it, me, I cringe.

That's the way I understand it, if I'm mistaken, I'm sure someone will let us know...

The TransGO shift kits will actually improve the life expectancy and power handling of a stock 700r4 too. Not as much as a nice heavy duty rebuild, but good enough for what you pay.

Its likely the TV cable is out of adjustment. If not then the Throttle Valve inside the pan may be sticking.

When my tranny did that, it was going south. Drop the pan and see if it has metal pieces in it. See if you have enough fluid and if the quality is good. Change filter if you drop the pan.

I have a 92 305. and it stated doing that, then i noticed it was low on fulid. so i just did a service. i get under there i look at the pan oil everywhere. WTF? so i pull the pan oil was black it was just serviced 7000 before i did this. there was alot of metal in the pan and on the magnit. 1 week later it blew up. so i had it rebuilt $800. and that was changing it my self. but i got a shift kit better clutch packvet servo. ran real good after that. mine had 179,000 miles tho. he said it had nver been rebuilt. and he was amazed he said 700's go bad every 100,000 or so depending on driving.

My 94 z did the same thing twice in three months.
