700R4 bolt up to older SBC right?

Just double checking some things:

A 700R4 will bolt up to an older SBC, like a 60's or 70's right?
Also, was the only electronically controlled thing was the speedo?

Just wondering because my stepdad has a 1940 Chevy and we might just throw the 700R4 from the GTA I'm picking up into it.

It should fit, but the TCC, or "Torque Convertor lock up switch" was also electronic. But you can wire these to work, and some kits can be bought for this.

Most likely, it will fit. My IROC has a block out of a 67 Nova, and it bolted right up.

I bolted my 86 700r4 up to a 74 350 block. They are all the same from 55-present. But I dont think a pre 55 block will bolt up to a post 55 block

The TC lockup is annoying. My buddy bought one, and it locks up as soon as he hits 4th gear, it doesn't wait or anything. The B&M lockup kit is like 140$ and it's adjustable as compared to the 70$ non-adjustable one. Just so ya know.

It'll bolt up to anything newer than '55.....just make sure you use the right flexplate. 2-piece RMS blocks use a flexplate with no counterweight, while late model ('87+ with a 1-piece RMS) have a counterwight on the back of the plate. And it seems that the lock-up converter issue has been covered......
