I would not use a harness without a roll cage. If you do roll it, you can't lean into the center console area to avoid the roof (as it is crushed in). If you can't lean over and the roof caves in, your head gets to support the roof. Not healthy. Also, the cage gives a proper attachment point. If you attach the belt too low (at too much of an angle) and are in a front impact collision, it can cause spinal compression injuries (crush the spine downward, causing serious injury). If you decide to run the belt to the rear "deck" area, remember that these belts are designed for a controlled stretching during an impact. Too much belt length and you may hit the dash/steering wheel before the belt stops your forward motion.

Just my thoughts.

Be safe!

Trackbird's got you on the right path here. The shoulder belts of a 5-point are supposed to mount at shoulder height as close to the seat as possible.....i.e. on the crossbar of the roll cage. Get the cage first then worry about the 5-points.

This depends on the sanctioning body for where you are racing. Check their rules. Some allow either Y or Individual, and some require the individual type.
