try slightly letting up on the clutch while trying to put it in relerse

since reverse is not syncronized, it may help, as the gears may not be lined up

Tried that no help.
it is the same weather the car is running or not I can not put it into reverse at all..
I assume reverse is straight down from 5th correct?
it moves a little and stops I can slam, jam, bang, kick, scream, cuss, etc. no go
the car is up on jack stands if it matters.

did you check the tranny fluid in there? why i ask this is alot of people take the plug out on the drivers side of tranny. that is for the reverse shaft. the fill plug is on the passenger side of tranny.once you pulled drivers side plug out your done the clip broke came off and shaft wont engage reverse no matter what.

Does anyone know how to check this pin??

its going to sound dumb, however back in my beginning days with this car i swapped it over to 5 spd, in do ing so i forgot to put in a piolet bearing that is tapped into the back of the engine. it makes it so its lined up perfectly. after that it would be a bitch ot get it into reverse.. i pulled it abck out and put in the bearing and it went in NO problem after that. hope this helps

ITS FIXED But Just in case anyone else ever has this problem it was on the driverside of the trans there is a bolt that looks like the fill plug it was 1/4 of the way out this caused the inner linkage to hit the reverse light switch inside the trans tightened the bolt and its fine
to bad I had to tear apart trans to figure this out
