DJP2001 do you know anything? Quit the anti TBI stuff.

Chip, MSD Module and low temp fan switch aren't tune items!

And they do not ADD Horsepower. Just a waste of money on the three items you mentioned,
1) ECM chip What improvement?? May be if you burn your own.
2) MDS Module What improvemnts?? Very little over stock.
3) Look I got a fan switch, big deal.

And I am not ANTI-TBI only stating facts on what the orignal question was about the LO3
engine and it limitations.

You have a 305 TBI in a 3rd gen Camaro/Firebird so you also are aware of its limitations and you can defend it all you want.

Well I got .243 out of the chip and MSD Module

And the TBI limitations are easily taken care of with a head swap, and maybe a .cam

Mr CODY BEHNEK
Just in case you did not read all the Posts, the above was my response to the original question. Now tell me what is so ANTI-TBI about it??? All right you did get some gains with your bolt on's and what do you have now??? A engine thats needs new Heads & Cam to perform.

Ok so back to the orignial question and away from DJP's TBI bashfest...start w/ a DUAL SNORKLE INTAKE, headers and exhaust, if you want look into some World Products S/R Torquer 305 heads...a cam and a 670cfm throttle body from holley (jegs). later

Dont forget about posi and gears also. The posi will help alot in making your car hook up off the line.

You'll pick up time with an open element, I picked up .2 and a mph from it (80.40 to 81.182). With an open element, free mods, and a catback I went 15.812 @ 83.84. Nothing fancy, but its practical and easy. No doubt with headers, good gears and posi (cutting 2.24 60's) I woulda seen 14s but I decided to go the full-out route. The mods are listed on my page if you're curious.

btw, DJP, where are you in Ohio? Id be intersting to hear your thoughts in person, no doubt. Maybe there's a track near us both? Let me know, the car should be out sometime in mid May and Im lookin forward to hopefully aucutally pulling good times this year.

JBIRD91 Where in FL? I'm in Melbourne. Here's a real break down of mods and 1/4 improvements that are hard FACTS. This is a 1991 firebird 305 TBI with a 5 speed and power everything race weight is 3500 lbs with me in it.

Baseline in 2001 sometime: 16.0 @ 85 mph
This is all stock except for no muffler(fell off), 3.73 gears and posi, and hypertech streetmaster chip(this chip is worthless).

9/18/02 15.76 @ 87.22 mph 2.31 60' ~104,000 miles
Added 16X8 GTA wheels GS-C tires, Formula hood with functional cowl induction, Hooker 3" cat-back, K&N filter, overheating at 230*+ due to failing t-stat.

10/16/02 15.47 @ 88.14 mph 2.20 60' ~105,000 miles
added 160* stat and kept engine ~ 160* by running A/C in pits(this forces your cooling fan on)

1/19/03 14.88 @ 93.02 mph 2.21 60' ~111,000 miles
Added Edelbrock headers, 3" randomtech cat, bumped timing to ~7*, removed heat stove valve and silencer ring from stock air filter housing.

1/29/03 14.78 @ 91.24 mph 2.11 60' ~112,000 miles
Adj. valve lash(probably too tight hurting power slightly) note 60' probably due to better track prep and better driving.

2/23/03 14.76 @ 92.97 mph 2.10 60' ~113,000 miles
No changes

3/3/03 Dynoed 178 rwhp from 3900-4900 rpm and 271 rwtq @ 2800 rpm. This is about 205 hp and 312 ft*lb torque.

3/12/03 14.67 @ 94.66 mph 2.16 60'(bogged all three runs) (could use some serious tuning) ~114,400 miles
Added L98 cam, crane 99848 valve springs installed at 1.72", LT4 reatainers and locks, Proform 1.6 RR, and a very slightly custom tuned prom by me which won't affect WOT right now anyways. stock air filter housing.

All runs except the first were done at Orlando Spinworld. Still running on the stock TBI , stock inj, stock intake manifold, and virtually stock chip. Edit: this is all stock suspension except for GR-2 struts(installed in 2001) which are about equal to stock IMO, poly tranny mount and torque arm mount.

Don't listen to anyone who says a 305 TBI is no more than a 15 sec car. They are either ignorant or very mis-informed.

I see that you are running a Carb on your 85 305 with the dual
snorkle. Now with 20HP more then the 91 TBI you may run faster.
I have enough knowlege to know you cannot compare a Carb to TBI set up on different engines.
All that "knowledge" and you still can't read. What part of the Jasper 355 in the same sig as the dual snorkel did you miss? I'm putting down at least 80+ more HP than a stock TBI. And carbed or TBI, doesn't matter. Its the single snorkel that's restrictive. They should both respond similarly.

All this "knowledge" from a guy who doesn't know what rear is under his car

OK Wise guy
For your info the rear was swapped out for 89 Disc BW 9-bolt. Let me check my addition:
Stock TBI 305=170 Hp
your Jasper = 80 HP
_______
Total 250 est HP Not bad for a 305
