3rd Gen's With 4th Gen Rears Look Within
I am looking at a couple of different posts and I see that everybody wants to know about tires sizes and rim sizes. But I never hear anybody with 4thgen rears talk about what is the biggest rim they can fit under there. I know that I have 2" more backspacing but what does that come out to? Is there anybody running that big of a rim? What is the largest tires size that I can put out back? With 2" more space I should be able to fit some 315/60R17's or some 315/65R17's ????? but I need to know the rim size.. I plan on using some weld rims of some sort don't know which ones, but I will probably buy racing rims and run around on those until I can afford to get show rims.. Someone with a 4th gen rear and the largest rims available please help!!!!! also I know the GM part number to make the e-brake work it's GM Part # 10164125 I do believe, I just thought I would add that cause I seen it in here but some people still don't know...
Thanks to all that reply,

hey man,
sorry i cant help u with the 4th gen rearend question. all i can say is the wheel (regardless of diameter) has to be at least 11" wide to put a 315 tire on there. theres a guy running around at thirdgen.org with a 335 tire on an 11" wide wheel but it isnt recommended.

Regardless of the rearend, you can fit any size wheel that will go under the car. I have a fourth gen rear and 9.5" wheels and it scrubbed on the inside. I clearanced the inside and the lip of the fender just does clear the tire. It is a 275/40/18. I have my rear lowered so the tire can tuck up in the fender well. If I cut my lip off of the fender well and clearance the inside a little more I might be able to get another inch of tire under their. So a 305mm wide tire would fit but anything wider would probably cause problems. That is if you want your tires tucked. If not, the sky is the limit
Third gen rims will fit on a 4th gen, but they will stick out a little bit. My friend used a pair of 16" GTA wheels on his 96 T/A for a day at the drag strip, didn't look all too bad.
I've got a 4th gen rear and I was running the 17x9 WS6 wheels.
I have 17x9.5 OZ Monte Carlos on the car now and there is maybe an inch of clearance on the inside between the tire and the inner fender well.
I do know that one set of my previous wheels were rubbing since I can see where it rubbed. I haven't driven the car with the OZ's yet since I am still building my LT4.
I do want to put some ZR1 17x11 wheels on my rear, so if anyone has a pair, slap them on and let us know if it works.
