In GM-High Tech, a guy is installing an LT1 into his 89 Formula and used an L98 alternator since it was smaller and lighter. Looking at teh two, the mounting ears look the same.

I'd say no. Third gen alternators are 105 amp and 4th gen are 140 amp. I'm going off of autozone's web site. The part number for the forth gen is: 1429-6-7 and the third gen is: DL1341-5-11. Hope this helps!
