396 out of an L98?
396 out of an L98?
I was throwing around some ideas for a project for next year and I thought, would it be possible to bore an L98 .060 over and stroke it to a 396?
It would require a bore of 4.06 and a stroke of 3.82. Has anyone ever heard of this being done? If so, what kind of power does that put out?

Most people do it with a .030 motor and a 3.875 crank. Its actually fairly common. Though Im not sure if its done often with an L98 block.
It will put out poswer numbers similar if slightly better than a 383 built the same way. However the crank needed is only avaliable in steel. So you will have to shell out the extra cash for that. No cast models.

Usually I see the "396" done with a 4.030 or 4.040 Bore and a 3.875 stroke. The smaller bore is actually 395, the larger is 397 but who's counting?
As far as what power it makes..."more than a 350" is all you can really say. More cubes makes more power if all other parts are identical. More Air+More Gas=More power and adding bore and stroke can accomodate that
Goodluck!
