383 to a T-5
Well I know the T-5 is not the best tranny but will it have any chance behind a 383 ci 400hp engine
if I can get the 383 done by summer it will have to go in front of the 383 the T-56 is next winter`s project
The car is a 85 Z28 with no modds except for the engine and I wont run slicks just my 255/60R15 Good years
Will the tranny hold if I don`t dump the cluch?
SFC`s will be installed before the 383 goes in

If you don't abuse it, ie no WOT throttle runs or clutch dumps, then it might last for a month or two. A t5 doesn't have a chance against even the most midly built 383. A t5 couldn't really handle an L98 (350).
Now of course you can build it up real nice, but it still won't last, and in my opinion, won't be worth it.

I'm running a WC T-5 behind my ZZ430, I went and rebuilt it and made a few custom parts for it that I read would really help the strength of it, it's still going strong 6 months later and I don't take it easy on it, but I don't power shift it either, that's what really kills them. When and if it ever fails I'm getting either a T56 or Tremec.

Don't be tempted by sorry 60 ft. times at the strip and it will probably last. Didn't see if it was WC or not. If you tires don't hook up then dumping the clutch probably won't kill it either. My 305 killed my non WC when I dupmed the clutch from a 20 mph roll in second. My WC has help up well behind my 350 for a while now. But I have really bad tires and don't dump the clutch.
If you ever want to pull sub 2 second 60 ft. times you may run into problems.

It`s not a WC and I don`t plan on racing it till I get the T-56 put in I just wanted to know if the T-5 will last 5-6 months if I don`t abuse it to much
I`ve dumped the cluch at 3000 rpm`s with the 305 and it did fine
and if I don`t get the 383 done this summer it won`t matter because the Zed will have a T-56 in 2004
and is there a way I could put a M-22 behind the 383 in my Zed I thought it would be cool to have the 4 speed like the older camaro`s

400 hp and a t-5, wow i surprised you guys aren't having more trouble with the T-5. If we recall GM built 50 86' Irocs with a 350 and the T-5 and it killed the T-5 all the time. Then in 87' when the 350 tpi became available, it was only availible with the auto tranny because the torque of the tpi killed the T-5. All the T-5 cars could only have the 305 tpi.

brodyscamaro,
No slicks. But I was running Yoko's 315X16 A008R's asymetrical's.
I did not "baby" the car but also didn't do any 6 grand clutch dumps either.
I don't think anyone is suggesting that this is any kind of bullit proof trans. Only that it will last if you take it a little eeeeazy.
I also think there is a bit of luck involved, re. the horror stories.
