350TPI Prom
350TPI Prom
I have a 1991 Z28 Camaro with a 305TPI and a T-5 Manual transmission. My current engine is burning oil. I refuse to rebuild a 305 and do all that work for a stock motor. So I am going to put in a 350 TPI. My question is if I swap to a 91 or 92 350 all I would need is a 350tpi prom. I understand that, but it needs to be for the transmission also. That is where my problem occurs. They never made a 350tpi mated to a T5 tranny. Could I use the PROM from a corvette of the same year? Because I know the corvette had a manual transmission option is 91 and 92. Would that prom fit into my ECM.
Also, if I go 87-90 and I get the ECM with it, will that work in my car? Would I have to still change the prom because of the manual transmission option? What would be the case then? A corvette ECM or just the PROM again.
Thanks for the help. Also before anyone says anything I know they never mated the 350TPI to the T5 because they said it was weak, but I am going to baby it for a couple of months until I put in a t-56.

Re: 350TPI Prom
in MAP setup the knock filter(or something like that) is in the prom so you need a 350 prom,
you also need a spark control module out of a 350,
custom prom is the best way to go,
I've seen some huge power increases on stock 350's with just a couple hours of tuning(datalog/emulate) and burning a new prom

Re: 350TPI Prom
don't use a corvette prom either,
I use corvette bins in Fbody's all the time but you have to make some changes so they work in fbody's,
but you could use the corvette prom for its knock filter and then run a custom prom

Re: 350TPI Prom
You basically need to get a custom prom. The Corvette prom will work, but they have an oil temp sensor in them. It will set an SES light if the sensor is not there. I used an AXXD chip, which is a 305 5-speed G92 chip for a 1992 Camaro Z28. Then I just changed the cylinder size and injector constant, along with the various fuel and spark things.
Re: 350TPI Prom
my bros 88 vert was a 305 TBI auto, switched to a L98 5 speed/3.27 and dual cats,
it ran a second faster and 11 mph quicker in the 1/4 then my 305 5 speed with 3.45,
very impressed with the 350 5 speed combo,
wasn't quiet enough though, so out came the motor,
getting a forged, lightened, balaced and blue printed bottom, bunch of other work and nice little 150 shot,
hopefully runing 11's this year
