Re: 350 tpi??
headers and exhaust are the single best simple mod you can do, bumping the fuel press a few pounds helps a bit as well.

Re: 350 tpi??
I agree with the exhaust. I replaced the entire exhaust from headers to tail pipes on my '87 formula and it made a very noticeable gain.
Factory exhaust is always restrictive because of emission and sound regulations. 99% of the time thats the best place to start.
Another thing that wont actually add any power but will change the feel of the car are the rear gears. I dont remember what gears the 3rd gens come from the factory with, but a set of 3.73's made my car feel like a beast off the line.
Those might not be the cheapest mods out there, but those made the biggest difference out of everything I did to the car.

Do all the basic bolt ons. Intake/exhaust stuff/1.6 rockers if you can. You will see typically around 250-260whp depending on the dyno. Some maybe higher depending on motor condition. Also give it a tune, these cars tend to be rich and under timed in the mid range.
If keeping TPI, i'd prefer 3.42's. I've had 2.77, 3.27 and 3.42's behind my car and 3.42's were the best out of the 3 for track performance as well as normal driving. I have 3.73's in my LS1 car and dont like it as much for highway driving and saw little in ET improvement surprisingly enough. TPI has shorter powerband, so 3.23-3.42's work well with stock diameter tires.
