ok fighting needs to stop, man in need of help and we all learned sometime (well most of us did, the guy who says it shouldnt be attempted obviously never learned), atleast camaro_boy's smart enough to ask before he starts, instead of 'uh...$!$#@, what happened?', and seriously online fights are sad... and on my 21 (ooops 22) year old firebird i have hobbyist plates and never have to pay registration anymore so
... anyway,
I have a one piece rear main 305 i stole a flexplate off of when i screwed up the 71 350's and it bolted up just fine, i did some research and found out why... it has little to do with the rear main seal, just years and not even really years just some are specified..., in my research 86 up to 95 have a different pn in a couple brands, but not all, for instance TCI and CSR have flexplates for all chevy, varying in tooth count, since well it matters for the starter gear lining up correctly, thus make sure you have the right starter for the flexplate this thread on another forum will assist in proper ID immensely http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/p...ad.php?t=42904 , the crankshaft is the crankshaft, pick up a summit catalogue, and sit back down.
next order of business, the big blocks are gonna be a tight fit, but i have seen it in stories
, remove all the excess crap and they fit, just they K.O. your stock shocks and move the weight beyond your engine mounts, the mounts are the same, the external dimensions are not (have fun fitting bbc headers on the monsterously wide block, it's enough fun with small SBC headers), in that case (dimensionwise) SBC is the same as far as you need to worry yourself with and BBC is.... really big, however with any swap you need to clearance for it, this should be expected as wires need to be rerouted and stuff moved, if you need a sawzall (if you need one of these going with your 350... i'd get scared fast), but make sure you know what you're doing.
if you use different brackets for accesories that set out further from the engine you're probably going to have to set your radiator back farther into the front end of the car, in a big block... have fun figuring out where to put it.
however to the point 305 and 350 are the same size block small, and will swap easily, and for the next wiseass this is unless you are running a 'police interceptor' 350 and the starter takes up the entire area you intend to use for exhaust, and make sure that if you run a non stock oil pan, that you're careful, stock is a tight enough fit.

changing motors is advanced, along with transmissions, rearends and rebuilds of engines rearends and transmissions, which reminds me, you probably should consider rebuilding the 350, i mean while it's out, it's half the job already done. just a thought and if you need help with that post in classic or 3rd gen forum and i'll see it and help ya out
and i apologize for giving in and saying something, but i had to
