Re: 334 debate and y not continued

1996LT1- 1st 305/334 different the accepted toss a 350 in and forget thoughts.

I never said I hated the 350 just tired of people that cant think out of the box, and that is why I suggested building something a little different. Matter fact getting tired of hearing it period anymore. Does that make me hate it no just the guys that think they are in elite club. In the earlier post where this all started seemed only way to make power was having a 350. As for the sec or two really drew it out of my a$$. Problem is chevy didnt have the 5sp with the 350 then, but figuring it had a 30 - 45 ft lbs of torque everything being equal (rear gears and such) and the horses were about the same maybe a 15 hp increase at most. then a sec or two would make the 350 boys feel happy. In all realitiy I must confess I dont think it would be even a full sec. But I haven't even considered doing a full desktop simulation on it.
I in no way see the 334 that far different then the 383 other then a few cubes short. Mine still fast enough..
As for the emotion, well when you have few guys saying the 305 is junk, and such, yeah kinda get that way after a bit considering my junk does see track life at 10.2 in the 1/4 all motor and in a 85 Monte SS to boot.
Not exactly a light car but yet my barge has a boat anchor and does well. Something I am proud of though honestly not quite so proud of the fact it is a cheater in the class. Think this was last year was running it anyways so no matter there.

I really hate doing this but you are wriong on a few points.
The piston velocities of the 305 and 350 are the same. The have the same length rod, meaning bore length is the same as well as the crank throw. Matter fact the crank is the same between them but you cant interchange them do you know why? It was brought up before.
If the motor was stroked then yes crank rotation speed will increase. When dealing with 305 and 350's only difference is the bore size so yes they are the same animals.
Also one last note small or large bore both respond equally across the board when increases are made. They dont respond any better but equally. Unless of course your increase was that of say a 500 cfm carb to a 1000 cfm which well you get idea.
As for revving a motor lightweight pistons, rods, balancer and flywheel will achieve a faster rev period. Read as aluminum.
My Monte in it form does terrible on the street due to fast rev and shift points. On the track it is excellent.

Good post...but piston velocities on a stroked 334 are going to be higher than that of a 350 and the bore is smaller. The crank on a 305 is the same as the crank on the 350, the 305 has smaller bore. I am not disputing that. But the higher piston velocities on a stroked 334 can be a drawback (they're not always and the 305, and 334, 350 and 383 are all good motors), I was just trying to point out a few differences that have an affect albiet small on how the motor will respond to various mods.

edit: I just re read my post, thank you for the correction, I was at work and on the phone when I was typing that. I meant to say there are differences between 305s, 334's and 350s when I mentioned piston velocities, bore and stroke. Indeed the 305 and 350 have the same piston velocity and the same stroke, with differing bores. The 334 is different from the 350 on all three, and different from the 305 on the stroke and piston velocity. Sorry for the confusion, work was nuts today, I've been chasing some software problems and it was non stop all day.

Thanks, and No problem, also sorry for any confusion on my end as well.

When does it seem that work gets in way of fun let alone cause us to go nuts?

Would also as well state that bigger bore engines almost always have a higher tolerance for incorrect fuel mix and ect as well (read as richer not leaner).
That is why the tpi does so little for the 350. Though as pointed out it was designed with the 305 in mind. With that thought brings this one as well it isn't even close to being a true preformance piece for the 305 either.

Guess really haven't heard a good enough reason on why not. Heard and talked about everything in between but................... Not quite the same as what was asked.

I look at building a 335 as something fun and unique. I dont think it will outperform any well built 350 or 383, but it definitly could be fun. And to say that u have a 335 would be cool :]
