305 Tpi
305 Tpi
I am new here I have a 92 S-10 Blazer and I am going to build a 305 TPI. So what is a good cam to put in it and heads. Is the TPI 305 a good motor or should I find a 350 block. I got the motor for 75.00 with 160k on it. I got everything with it. What other thing can I do to it to get more power out of it. I think it came from a 91 firebird. How much hp does the 305 tpi have
You got an entire LB9 with TPI components for $75?! Sweet man. I wouldn't put a dime in it. Especially because you got it so cheap, go find a 350 block, you'll obviously have to get bigger pistons too though.
If you stay with the 305, look into WP Torquer S/R heads. Cams--I have no clue there man sorry. Have fun and good luck!

NOTE: In '91, I *think* the LB9's (305TPI) got 230hp/320 lb-ft. Somewhere around there.

Try to find a '87-up. 1986+ is 1pc RMS and 87+ is hydraulic roller.
Basically any 1987+ 350 block will work. A guy on www.thirdgen.org was selling a 350 block for $80 just a couple weeks ago. Maybe you should look for that.

Vortec heads--Ah the classic debate. Cheap heads? Yes. Cheap to run? No. Always factor in the $400 intake you need to run these heads. If you're going for budget heads, look at Dart Iron Eagles and Pro Topline Lightnings. Good heads for around $800 (still cheaper than Vortecs/Intake).
LT1 cam will work but not too well. Save up and get a real cam, you'll be happy you did, and cams aren't too expensive.

I was looking at www.enginekits.com and that have 305 storker kit it makes it to a 335 and it will give tpi 305 about 115 more hp. If that is true this I will just keep the 305 I will have 345hp after and few mod for sure
"This may seem dum?? But why on an F-bodt site would be Building an S-10???
Of we can Talk and post other Mechine's I'ds Love to chat about my AMX I'm reworking the Engine......"
because he wants info on the 305 tpi that came out of a camaro, prolly not too many s10 forums with tpi's in them.
oh and im sure myslef would love to hear about tat amx? got pics?
i remember amc eagles but amx is before my time.

I think you would be better off investing in a 350 build instead of a 334. The 334 would still have the small 305 bore, so it would shroud the valves and hurt power. Probably cost more to build the 334.
You could build the 305 TPI to make good power, plenty of fbod 305's are running low 13's or in the 12's. You wouldn't need to go crazy making the 350 perform. Just look at the thread of the guy running 12's with bolt ons, including a stock cam. This guy did it right and built for torque, not high rpm hp. That is exactly what you would need for your S10 project.

You are right TQ is what I need to get my blazer going. I paid for the motor and I am going friday to pull it. I am assume it is a 305 because it is hard around here to find a 350TPI. Is there a way to tell if it is a 350 without pulling to motor. The firebird has 160mph on the dash. It would be sweet as hell if it was a formula 350
