305 tbi

Hey whats up guys i been lookin for stuff but cant find alot of stuff on 305 tbi. This car is just a lil somthing to play with i already have a set of headers for it and a 3200 stall and a cold air intake but i was also wonderin whatelse i could do to it i m tryin to stay away from puting any big money into so i can use most of my money for my 97 camaro. Is there any free mod for the tbi's?I also heard you can port the stock Throttle a lil is that true?Does anyone know if my lt4 hotcam springs will work on the stock tbi heads? And will a cam out of a 97 lt1 work in the tbi without any mods to the cam?I was also thinkin of tryin to pull the heads and try a lil portin myself just to practice. So any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: 305 tbi

First thing to do is check out the TBI board on Thirdgen.org. All the info you could ever want to know about modifying the 305 TBIs is their. Start here: http://thirdgen.org/techbb2/showthre...hreadid=227281

There are some free mods. They are referred to as the "ultimate TBI mods". That involves grinding down the raised ridges around the TBI unit, grinding down the throttle shafts, and making the stock fuel pressure regulator adjustable. An injector spacer will also help, you can get them at Jegs or Turbocity.com. You can also advance your timing anywhere from 2* to 8*, although it seems most engines run best at 4* with 87 octane. Here's a link: http://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/te...matetbi2.shtml

I can't fully remember right now, but I am pretty sure that you cannot use LT1 springs on a 305 TBI. But, you can use an LT1 or LT4 cam. All you have to do is grind down the dowel pin a little bit. But, you usually have to replace the stock valve springs, because of the added lift of the LT1 cams. But, you will need to tune the motor with custom PROMs after a certain number of mods. The stock computer tune can handle a stock motor with light mods, but the more you modify it, the worse it's going to run. Check out the DIY-PROM board on Thirdgen.org and start reading up now.
