305 > 454 swap?
i have no idea if a 454 would fit but it would be tight if it did. Man a 454 that would be a scary fast car and guaranteed theres no way your existing tranny could stand up to the kind of ponies youd be putting out

the 454 would definitely fit. I remember a while back, Motor Trend had a 454 Camaro test mule ( done up by General Motors ) that they flogged for a bit. They dubbed it "The Angry Poodle" because of it's exhaust note.
The 454 will fit pretty easily with just minor modification. WE had a Chev 454 in an 88 Airex motorhome that we were going to put into my IROC.
That being said, do NOT. . . I repeat do NOT use the 454 with the 700R4. Swap it out for a TH350 or TH400. You'll shatter that poor tranny faster than. . . well yeah.
