305 to 350 swap.. what do I need?

Ok, so I'm going to swap out my car's 305tpi for a 350tpi. For the most part, I expect that will be a fairly simple one, just plug and play. However, I'm sure there are some things I will need. A new ECM? Fuel injectors? I want to make sure that I've got all the parts I'm gonna need when I start out, so I dont find myself without a car while I wait for parts I forgot to come in

Thanks guys,
-Damen

All you need is fuel injectors, programming, and the 350 motor.

I think they are the same for 305 and 350, but I may be mistaken.
I do know that the knock sensors are different on the 85-89 TPI and 90-92 TPI setups, since I had to get one when I went from MAF to SD.

The ESC modules are different for 350`s The letter code on the unit identifys them, they are near the brake booster as I recall.

when i did that swap everything swapped right over. the injectors will work but the correct 1ns for a 350 is 22 lb/hr. i would change to new injectors b/c most likely they are in poor condition anyway...i wish i had changed mine at the same time...just didnt have $300 (or more) to blow on a new set.

the car will run w/ the 305 chip and everything...probably not to its full potential but it will work,i did it.

Performance injectors can be had for under $250 nowadays.
I am running the Ford Racing SVO 30# on mine, I think you can get those for $220 for the set.

Thanks guys, really good to know. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what kind of rear end my car has? ('89 IROC Conv.)

Will it hold up to the bigger engine? Particularly when I supercharge it later on in life?

And dont worry, I've already got SFCs on order

Thanks again,
Damen

Best way to check is go and count the bolts that hold the cover on.
9 bolts or 10 bolts will hold the cover on.
My 9bolt and a few others had a rubber plug on the cover as well.
10 bolt will break, just a matter of when. 9bolt is a bit stronger and should last longer with more power if maintained well.
9" or 12 bolt is a great upgrade, those are nearly indestructable.

The rear end is only held on by 6 bolts, one in each control arm, one in each shock, and 2 on the torque arm.

It's not too hard to swap rears, just takes some time. Having a person help makes it easeir but isn't required if you are kinda strong. My brother can do it now in about an hour or so by himself.
Here is a tech artivle on swapping a 4th gen rear into your car, which is the same as just swapping rears, just ignore the 4th gen references in the article.

Angry 9" I hope you ain't talkin Ford 9" i've breaken 2 of them.......

The 10Bolt 7.5" rear end will hold up well but only for so long then it will go.......

I'm swapping a 9" moser under my 91GTA hopfully before the 406TBI get's stuffed into it.......

But if i get into a hurry who know's what might happen...

if the 406 goes in before the Rear end swapp i'll just drive it easy as the first 4,000miles will be break in anyway.....

witch might give me enough time to save up for a.........

Dana/AMC20 rear end....... there unbeatable........

The only GM 10Bolt i can't break is the 12" 10 Bolter's.......

but then agian we ain't talkin 50's &60's GM 1 ton's.... .

Zepher BTW there is 12 Bolt's required to do the swap........

2 control arm, 2 torque arm 2 shock 2 Traction bar,4 U-Joit.

(might be 4 sway bar bolts so 16 but who's counting)

...................................... ..............

The size of the 7 5/8 is larger, but it has 2 less retaining bolts than a 7.5. I dont know if you never had the two next to each other, but i have. the carrier that comes in a 10 bolt 7.5 is the size of a cantalope, the 7.6 carrier is the the size of a grape fruit! The carrier as of last year still has not been picked up by the aftermarket. They are according to D.T.S in warrn. mi are un-rebuildable. My 7.5 rear is an aurbun posi w/richmond gears, solid pinion spacer. My car makes 600ftlbs of torque at its peak and does the 60 in 1.67. Its mainly a street car with ocasional trips to the strip. 3 years and counting, still going.
