3.27's or 3.70's for a TPI 350? (9 bolt)

I have a set of 3.70's but I just found some 3.27's for real cheap. I know 3.70's would be the best bang for the $ if I had a Stealthram to complement the gears, but right now I don't. I'll eventually get a Stealthram, but currently I am just going to run my TPI setup.

Should I just swap the 3.70's in and live with it until I can get a Stealthram, or should I get the 3.27's and have them put in and just hang on the the 3.70's until I can get my motor all setup first?

Please help me out here, I don't know what to do and I don't want to make the wrong decision.

i would actually use the 3.27s with the tpi and the 3.70s with the stealthram
reason being, the 3.70s are going to like a higher revving car it seems like rather than the 3.27s
now if your tpi made power above 4500rpms it might be a different story

if he wants his car to be slower now then go with 3.70's....itll be faster to 50 or so maybe even 60, but dude it will REALLY fall on its face.....

prime example....my buddy has a 91 z with G92...that gave the car 3.23 gears...ran 14.1-2's all day factory beside a K&N....he swapped the gears for a 3.73 and ran 14.3-4's...the 60 foot,330 and 1/8 were all a little quicker, but he lost over a half second after that.....

Do the 3.70's and it WILL make you get the StealthRam swap completed faster. The car will be spinning hard out of the hole and falling right on it's face once third gear hits.

A Stealth ram will really help on the top end. So would a matching camshaft. Cylinder heads always help but that's an entirely new episode, isn't it? Goodluck!

I vote 3.70s. And the car will only be spinning out of the hole if he doesn't setup the suspension right.

Go with the 3:70's. If you know you are going to be doing a HSr swap then why do a gear swap twice?

The 3.70's will be just fine with your aplication, I ran a 10 bolt 3.73 gear in an '85 WS6 with a TPI motor and it went just fine. Yeah you will reach that dreaded 4750rpm faster with the 3.73 gear, but if you are looking for high rpm operation the tpi is the wrong setup anyway.

Thats my .02

The 3.70 will be quicker, even with the TPI, but only if you can hook it up. My car dropped .2 seconds with the swap from 3.23s to 3.73s in the 60 ft. I dead hooked with both gears and went from a 2.0 60' to a 1.815 60' with BFG drag radials on a good track. It is easier to spin off the line though so traction is key here. With the stock convertor the 1 to 2 shift really hurts the track time with the 3.23s and it is less noticable with the 3.73s. Go with the 3.70s and you will be set for future mods too.
