Yes it is a 700R4....As to rear end gear, it depends on what you want to do with it....Street car?? Drag car?? Daily driver??(doubt it with a 383, but I've seen crazy stuff) Road racer?? Top speed contender??

Yes, you have a 700r4. As far as gear ratios go, it depends on the application. Is your car going to be a daliy driver, weekend street/strip, or strictly a track car?

Id go with 3.73 gears, they are a nice all around gear for the track and also the street.

Not bad, but if you like get alttile top speed going down the highway I have found that 3.42's do a great all around job, expecially if you have a torquey motor (a.k.a. TPI motors)

3.42 is generally considered to be the best all-around gear for the TPI motor, but if you want a little more punch and don't mind the slightly lower mileage and top speed, 3.73's are a great gearing too.

If you have a higher gear ratio, more torque will be put to the wheels, but you will also have a lower top speed.

Yes, but if you can get a 3.73 gear to hook it will be faster until you hit top speed
