yes, they will fit fine on the wheel. might have to watch for rubbing, especially if the car is lowered.

When I ran 255's on my '89 formula, they fit just fine and it was lowered.

Just FYI, I'm running Z-rated 255/50/16 SZ-50s on the rear of my GTA, & haven't seen any problems at all. I've heard of people going as wide as 275 without any problems, but YMMV...

HTH,

T.

245 is the right width for an 8" rim.....you can stretch or squeeze smaller/larger widths but you shouldn't.

Don't forget to change your drive and/or driven gear so the speedo reads right.

Correct.

They asked if it fit, and it will. But you won't really gain any performance. The tire will start to bow the treadface since the sidewalls are pinched closer together than they want to be.

I dunno. Is 10mm (less than half an inch) really going to make that much traction difference to justify screwing with the speedo?

i never really understood the need or even want to put wider then necessary tires on rims that they aren't meant for. most of the time when you see something like that it's because the person got a deal on them rather then choice.....more or less overstock at the tire shop, etc.

personally i'd stick with 245's with less hassle but that's just me. good luck!

That would be true if it was maybe 275 but not 255. Even the GNX got 255's in the back and those were 8" wheels. Its no big deal to put 255's on an 8" wheel.

As far as the speedo being off, its basically a wash. You'll only be off about 1mph at 65. Roughly 1.5%. No need to change speedo gears for that.

But won't that affect your mileage too? Besides, I use my speedo and the tach to keep an eye on the tranny. If it goes too high for a certain speed, I tend to wonder if the tranny is going south. Never failed me yet.

I didn't think that putting a wider tire messed with the spedo...i thought that only the taller or shorter it was...but i am unsure...

That depends on the aspect ratio. 245 50 has a height of 245*0.5 which is 122.5mm high whereas 255 50 has a height of 255*0.5 which is 127.5 mm. As such we are talking of a 5 mm height difference.
