I just bought a 88 sport coupe camaro for a d/d and i wanna give it a lil more power i have ordered summit headers,march pulleys, y-pipe , and flowmaster cat-back exhuast i beleve the engine is rated at 175 hp to the flywheel is there anything else i can add to get it up to around 200 to the wheels without messing with engine internals??

 

Well you ordered a full exhaust (almost,High Flow Cat?)

Now...get some air in there.Add a K&N Filter for more flow.

With all those mods,You should be if not already after those mods, be reaching 200 HP.

 

i doubt it with the stock heads your running, k&n will help it allow more air in but if the CC can't suck in more air and push out just as much then the cat-back and new air filter aren't adding to much. don't get me wrong it'll give you some but i doubt 25hp total, and are you aiming for 200flywheel or 200rw? porting your existing heads might not help much but getting different heads would deffinitely.

 

He wants 200 HP at the wheels, and I dont know of a way with the stock heads and cam. Someone I know had all the TBI free mods, headers, cat, exhaust, etc, and made 175 hp at the wheels. Perhaps someone else has done it.

 

I got my RS to 181rwhp with exhaust, air cleaner and timing. Now with heads, intake and a mild cam I'm making 225rwhp. I'm about to do a TPI conversion and another cam and I'm aiming at 260+ rwhp.

 

I know you dont' want to do any serious engine work, but if you drop an LT1 cam in that motor and get a custom tune along with the mods you already plan to have you should be right around 200 rwhp.

u can put a lt1 cam in a 305 tbi?
wat else would be needed

cause i just tore apart my lt1 and have my cam lying around

and a cuzin of mine is wanting more power out of his 305 tbi

I dont think you will be able to get 200 rwhp without changing the heads. If you pull the heads off you might as well stick a cam in it also. Now if your talking about fwhp i think you could get 200. When your doing the exhaust you might as well upgrade to a 3 inch cat and do a 3 inch catback. You can get a catco 3inch cat for like 40 bucks and it will be alot better than the stock one.

With full exaust you should be at about 170-180 rwhp

 

yea the lt1 cam works on a tbi 305
the lt1 small block cam has a higher lift than the 305 stock and the cam is fully interchangable, but watch out, throttle body units run on a speed density system which is very sensitive to cam changes

 

correct me if i am wrong, but the only thing i think you need for the lt1 cam to fit is to push the pin inwards (i do not remember how far) on the front of the cam... oh you may want to get some better springs...

 

only if it is a 95-97 F-body cam, a 94-96 Y-body cam, or a 94-96 B-body cam(all with vented optis, unvented opti cams have the pin at the correct length)
