I've never done this but you will need probably the whole wiring harness, ecm. What kind of trans you got? If you got a standard you will need a different trans too cause the 6 cylinder version differes from the v8 version. If you have a 700r4 though, i am pretty sure it will work without much of a problem. I think if you go over to www.thridgen.com they got a whole step by step article on how to do it.

No, the V6 transmissions, both the 700R4 and the T5, have a different bellhousing bolt pattern and will not bolt up to the V8 engine. Basically you need everything from the V8 car. Radiator, front engine accessories, engine, lines, wiring harness, computer, transmission, cooler lines, tranny mount, and driveshaft. You might as well grab the front and rear sway bars and shocks and springs, too, as the V6 stuff is smaller and softer.

Re: 2.8 mfi to 5.7 tpi conversion question

if i need a different trans than ill ahve to scrap the idea cause that would be too much. its really too bad iff thats the case, cause i was looking forward to having the 342 final drive gear that the v6 has on an l98 motor. anyway not that i dont believe you Kevin91Z but can anyone else confirm that the v6 700 has a different bolt patern than the v8 700.

v6 cars have a 60 degree bell housing. v8 cars have a 90 degree. Information given by Kevin is all correct.

Incorrect information. The V6 T5 will bolt up to a V8. IIRC you need the bellhousing from a V8 T5 though. And you have to get a clutch for an S10. As said before, checkout thirdgen.org, lots of info on this.

Also, the driveshafts are interchangable as well.

Its not incorrect info, just practical info. He wants to use his V6 stuff and I said it wasnt possible. The S10 clutch you talk about is the same one as for a V6 thirdgen. And do you think a V6 clutch will be a high-performance model for a V8? I doubt it.

I forgot about the motor mounts, yes those need to be changed, too. Basically, its not a worthwhile swap unless you're getting all the parts for free and you know how to do the swap yourself. You would spend less money selling your V6 car and buying a V8 car.

It's not a thirdgen V6 clutch. The one I'm talking about is larger. Anyway, it's true it's not a worthwhile swap. A V8 tears V8 T5's apart, and with the lower gears in the V6 version it won't last long. Just saying it's possible, as long as you drive it nice.
