19hp and 59lb of torque with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator???
19hp and 59lb of torque with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator???
I was just reading up on some third gen stuff over on another camaro forum and stumbled across this bit of information.
Apparently, on a completely stock 350, you can pick up a gain of 19hp and 58lb of torque by adjusting the fuel pressure to 50psi
Why does this sound too good to be true?
I want to believe it but I'm having a hard time doing so since that's about twice the torque increase you'd get from a complete aftermarket exhaust upgrade for 1/5 the price
If this claim wasn't made by such a reputable information site like camarosource.ca , I wouldn't believe it.
Here's a link to the information I read.
Can someone either confirm or disprove this claim?
By the way, apparently this on 3rd gen's only specifically the L98 350.

Have to raise the BS flag. For one, anyone can write down numbers and "claim" the power, but where are the actual graphs to prove it? Second, raising pressure does not do much, at WOT the pump shoots to 50 PSI anyways. Also, did he do anything else like change injectors, exhaust, or anything???Not enough proof there for me to believe it.

yeah thats complete and udder bullship. Like said, your fuel pressure is at 50 psi or so at WOT. Probably some n00b that got in the "Zone".
Re: 19hp and 59lb of torque with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator???
On an L98, raising the fuel pressure did wonders for me. Granted, I didn't dyno before and after. But the SOTP difference was quite noticable. Not so much in the top end, but the 2500-4000 RPM was a nice boost. Just feels more responsive when idling around town too. I could tell a difference before I even got to the end of the block.
There has to be a difference because when you set the pressure, you're changing the psi at WOT.

I'm not attacking you, or saying your wrong, I'm just saying that "feelings" are different among a lot of people. What I concider responsive is "RIGHT NOW!", as an example.

Who really cares about dyno #'s? What really matters is the results @ the track. Now don't get me wrong dynos are great tuning aides, but can be misleading. Anyway with that type of mod you can see and feel a performance improvement if you bump up your initial timing from 6 to 8 or maybe even 10 degrees along with it. Because the informaton given on that web site does not give specific details besides raising the fuel pressure, but there is some thing to gain by doing it.
By raising the fuel pressure you allow the fuel coming out the injectors to atomize little better giving the injectors a better spray pattern.

Whenever you are reviewing data, you need to understand where it came from. 1st of all, that entire article was clipped from Thirdgen.org in the FAQ section...I remember reading that there first about 5 years ago...
And that one part of the Thirdgen "Noob" article was taken from the TPIS Tips and Hints book. So those claims are from TPIS...who does try and sell their own AFPR.
Even if those #'s are correct, you are way overfueling the low end to get the higher end gains...and so for a street car, it would be a bad idea.
Also, that data is from an era before the DIY-PROM time on Thirdgen.org...so now, you can actually tune the fuel in or out instead of using a band-aid like the APFR to effect global fueling changes.

Yeah what he said!!!!
Re: 19hp and 59lb of torque with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator???
Nah it may have its benefits but they dont outweight the benefits, unless you can find a first hand account of someone who has done this and found these results for themselves and you can trust there judgement its probably not going to happen. It would be a common known secret if that worked.
