1996 Impala SS vs 1992 Z28 5.7
Just curious how close they might come.
Motor trend says the SS does 0-60 in like 7 seconds, and 1/4 15.40 @ 91.40mph. How does a 3rd gen compare?
Stock for stock, that is.
Because assuming the LT1 is more powerful, but the Impala would weigh much more, then they should be about even?

I agree, I've seen moderately modified SS's just run mid-low 14's. Like mild converter, mild gears, programmer, the usual stuff. But remember these things are really heavy.
I ran an SS one in my '91 regal 3800 and I could stay with him to only 40mph, then he walked me HARD!...They're not the hardest launchers but after they get rolling they can turn it on...

I can add this, if it will help....
My LT1 Caprice, when stock, ran a best of 15.18 on a warm, high 70s day......
The only performance difference between a Caprice and an Impala is:
Rear gears Imp 3.08, Cap 2.93
Tire size Imp 27", Cap 28"
Also, Imp has an elec primary fan, Cap mine has a mech. Worth about 10hp.
Most stock Impalas I know, and our club races a lot, run around 15 sec, some a little under, some a little over....
I don't know the stock specs on a 3rd gen Camaro....but I would think it should be faster...somewhere in the 14s....
BTW....It's easy to get an LT1 b-body to run 13s NA...

Bob T.

If you were to swap engines, the F-Body would more than likely be faster because of the torque curve, let alone the little higher HP.
Peak numbers don't tell the whole story!
As for the question, the F-Body would walk the Impy all day, stock for stock.
