1988 Iroc-Z

Hello,

I was wondering I have a 1988 Iroc-Z 305 TPI, 5spd and I want more power out of the car but would still like to be able to use the car as a daily driver. I was wondering what are my different routes? What are my best choices? I wa thinking super charger, what are my cost's if I go that route?

I am also looking at getting some racing stripes on the car and was wondering if any one has a Black Iroc or Z with white stripes? and should I get vinyl stripes or paint the stripes on?

Thank You,
Mark

First things first, these cars are quite choked. They need to breath!

Headers and exhaust should be your first mod(s). It'll definatly make a difference in waking the car up some.

As far as a sc goes, it'll cost some money, and may not even be worth it. Unless you rebuild your motor and beef it up some, it won't last very long (of course this depends how many miles are on it now, and if it's been taken care of). A SC would be sweet no doubt, but I don't think it would be your best route.

Really though, we need more info if you want to be helped more. What do you want the power for? The track? Whenever you feel like it? ALL the time? I think the best, and cheapest route would be nitrous. As long as you don't go over board with it, you've got the "instant power at the flip of a switch" going for you.

Hi Thanks for the info,

The car has about 50,000 Miles on it, she is MINT, been very well looked after.

I want the power for offline acceloration, I want to be able to go at the lights, and I just want it there when I want it there... lol... but I dont like the idea of turbo leg, but still want to have a daily drivable car.

Im not much of a fan of nitros looking for other routes.

ooo turbos are fun. My dads saab has a turbo and the thing startles me every now and then it gives you a really fun boost. Still though i wouldnt reccomend a sc or a turbo on an un built up motor. Doesnt make sense because you wont be able to run that much power through it on a stock car and so you definitly wont get that much bang for the amount of money it'd cost. Id build up your engine first before you look into something like that. And in terms of mods like the prev people said exhaust larger gears and maybe a chip would be a good idea

Nitrous, supercharger, turbo I wouldnt go that route. there is a ton of bolt ons for our cars for a little extra power boost. The first thing i would do is go with a new exhaust. one reason is that it will help your engine breathe a little easier, and it will also improve your cars sound. as far as other mods, there is a ton, higher gears, intake (steath ram ), underdrive pulleys, heads, cam, aluminum driveshaft, sfc's (wont make you go faster, but is a must for our cars), performance chip. the possibiltys are endless, its just up to how much you want to spend.
