I have a 1988 Iroc with a 305 tpi and a 5 speed and when its cool out and when I come to a stop it takes a few,maybe 20 seconds to come down fron 1500 rpm to idle around 700.Does anyone have any ideas.I will not be taking it to a garage as other than that driveablity is great.Thanks

 

My car does this also but mostly when I start it and its in park. After shifting it to Drive or Reverse it idles down right away but sometime never comes down from 1500 rpm after starting until shifted. Have you removed the MAF screen from your intake? I read on a website that on some cars they have had idle problems and other small things. My car runs perfectly but never idles right in park.

 

thats a normal function. my tuner (from mena ark, street & perf) said this is to keep the motor from dying. my 89 formula does the same thing.
