1986 IROC I'm buying

I am about to buy a 1986 IROC with a 305 engine and the T5 5 speed tranny for $500 and i just wanna make sure im gettin a good deal. The body is in pretty good condition. The rear fender flares have some surface rust, but there is no rot anywhere on the car. The floorpans are spotless, it has a sunroof, not t-tops. The interior is almost perfect except for the cieling where the cloth is sort of sagging, and a few rips in the side of the passenger seat. The biggest problems with it are that the switch that makes you able to start the car only when the clutch is in only gets voltage now and then, and it has an oil leak that requires about a quart of oil a week. It started right up at first, then died and we couldnt get it started again. Also, im not sure of the mileage because the odometer only goes to 99999 and the guy doesnt know how many times it rolled over. However, its at 4606 right now and I doubt it was rolled over more than twice. So am I getting a good deal at $500?

Thanks

I don't think it is a bad deal for $500. The oil leak would concern me and I would be weary of the sunroof leaking as well.

At $500, if you are willing and able to do the work on it, its not a bad deal. On the other hand if you can't do any work yourself, you may be setting yourself up for some big expenses down the road.
Remember those expenses as you make your decision.

If it were me I would make sure it was actually an IROC and buy it in a second if it was.
Keep in mind if you don't know how to do the work and/or arn't willing/don't have time to learn it is probably going to turn into a money pit. I would say the neutral saftey switch is not a big deal probably just needs a new switch or the wire worn through somewhere. The oil leak could be as simple as a valve cover gasket or a PITA rear main. Why did the car stall and not start again though?

if it is a real iroc, and you are very handy...go for it, it would be a good deal...but if you make a garage do all the work, forget about it, you'll have 3grand into it in no time....

Scott, give me a freakin break.
I dont know why your so concerned about if you got a good deal or not....
600 dollars (The guy wouldnt go for 5), you got a car that you like and that runs and drives fine so far. Compare that to me spending 2500 for a car that barely ran, then 600 to get it fixed, and STILL its sat in front of Fox's house since Sunday because the ****ing radiator blew up, you got a helluva deal!
Now shut up about your "Good deal" crap and get back to work changing the spark plugs! LOL

Sorry bout that to everyone else....
he bought the car yesterday for 600 bucks and it runs and drives fine. Little things here and there, but overall a good car. He's been asking everyone he sees if they think he got a good deal. if i had gotten a deal like that i'd be jumping up and down with excitement, but unfortunatly, i got SCREWD.
Ah well
