1985 z28 1/4 mile time?

yo fellas just wanderin what u think a 1985 z28 wit an auto tranny and im guessing a 305 tpi or 350. would do in a 1.4 mile stock? i wanna race this guy who has one. i have a 2000 v6 firebird wit a wisper induction lid, flowmaster 80 series catback lsd, and 3.42's in the back. he says his z runs mid 13's and i really dont think it does unless he's got alot of work done. any helpful advice would be much appreciated thanx!

IF the car is stock then it is definatly a 305. 350's didn't reappear in the f- body until 1987, if I remember correctly.

He has the 305. You should take him unless he has some serious mods. Good luck with the race.

1. Nobody puts 350s in older 3rd gens. Nobody.

2. Assuming the worst case scenario, a stock 85 305TPI: Even if its out of tune and runs like crap it should still give your V6 a run. They are low-mid 15s stock.

Unless he's got some serious work done, like an engine swap or forced induction, I'm callin BS on the mid 13s

We can't call the race without his mods info, and knowing for sure he has the 305 TPI. He could also have the LG4 or L69 carbed 305s... Your's is a 5spd right?

If he has the 305 TPI in 85 he should have 3.23 gears most likely, with 215hp that year. low/mid 15s if it's in decent tune stock. It wouldn't take much for him to beat you, but he's probably BSing about the times...

Actually, you guys are overlooking something. In 1985 the 305TPI's ALL got a cam that was way better than the cam found in later 305TPI/auto combo's. In 1985 they used the same camshaft found in the 5.0L HO(L69).

Severe mods? Hell no, basics can get a non-peanut cammed car into the mid 14's easy enough. Headers, and induction upgrades can do wonders for a TPI car.

The 85 cam is not quite as big as the 88 and 89's, but its still far ahead of any 1986+ 305/a4 TPI car's cam.

Lift_____|_Dur.__|_LSA
85 TPI Auto/Manual (Peanut Cam)
.403 .415 202 206 114.5

86TPI 305/auto
.350 .385 178 194 109.0

1988 and 89' 350/a4 | 305/m5
.415 .430 207 213 117.0

Not all 305's are created equal. Many 305/m5 TPI cars are capable of hitting mid/high 14's. Specially the Speed Density cars, some speed density cars are in the mid to low 14's.
