Does anyone know about the cooling system on these cars for either of the years above. As far as an electric fan goes and stuff???

I don't know about the 85 but most of them just use power to the fan controlled by a fan switch on the engine to control the ground. Aftermarket companies make switches that push into the radiator and turn the fan on at a set temperature. The switches on the engine look like a coolant temp. sensor that has contacts that close at a calibrated temperature.

The 78 Z28 has a mechanical fan and the 85 has a single electric fan that's controlled by the ECM. Do you have any specific question about them?

That was exactly what I was trying to explain thank you. I was having a brain fart.....anyways where can I get one of those because I have the fan now set to come on all the time while the car is on and I dont want to wear it out.

I'm not sure about "most" but I am sure about the TPI cars. There's a fan relay on the passenger side of the radiator. The ECM sends the signal to the relay, which sends voltage to the fan. The ECM will turn on the fan when the coolant temp reaches a specific temp, and turn it off when the temp comes down to a specific temp.

On the 87-92 cars, there were 2 fans. The primary was controlled in exactly the same manner as the single fan cars. The 2nd fan was used in conjunction with the air conditioning.

Yeah that is correct. I just need to figure out where to get one from so I can make the fan work right again. Mine shorted out...

Another what? Fan motor? Computer? Harness? Relay? I still have no idea how to help you.

I bought a new fan motor at the local parts store. They'll also have the relays and the computer.

The relay itself is what I need. No auto parts stores carry that here where I live. Also cannot find it on the internet on auto parts sites.

You can order them from SUMMIT or JEGS Just go to their cooling section and look up the electric fans and accessories
