18" wheels? likes and don't likes?

Just like the topic says,

who's running 18" wheels?
Pros and Cons?
Is there a big loss in power becuase of the extra rotating mass?

Fitting conflicts? Would i need any modifications done to the car or would these fit ok in the wheel well?

I am planning to use the Eibach Pro Kit springs which would give me approx. a 1" drop.

Thanx for the help and opinions.

Mike

I've never been a fan of real tall tires on a 3rdgen. I don't even think 17s look right. Wide is good, tall is bad. That's just my opinion though.

I am running 18" rims, and I have no problem at all. My car is lowered 2 1/4" though I do have negative 3 or 4 camaber to compensate for the lowering. The fronts are 235/40/18 on a 8.5 rim. And the rears are 265/35/18 on a 9.5 rim. Also no loss of power cause the 265's are just a hair shorter than the stock 245/50/16 but traction for me is a little bit of a challenge.

I'd say the biggest CON to having 18" RIMS is the rubber price.

a 17" rim can fit a 14" brake rotor system, or at least all the ones i know of, going up to 18's would really just be a cosmetic choice, the extra weight would slow you down, as well as the "gearing" of a bigger rim like that, also more prone to flex or even breaking.
I dont believe upping to 18"s would have any handling benefits, even if you kept the weight the same, but it's your car if you like it do it.

I agree. Drop the suspension if you want to fill the gap. Buy a set of polished IROC 17s.

Original 18" & 17" Z06 wheels. Had to use billet spacers from SPD to get them all to fit. Turning clearance isn't a MAJOR problem, but I wouldn't suggest autoXing w/ them.

I didn't know GM had an SS option on a 3rd gen?

Don't get me wrong here, your car looks sweet. I just don't understand why people fake that stuff.

Not my car. I agree w/ the whole "SS" thing, but that's what he wanted. *shrug*

And the purpose of this mod is???

I' get wider if I was autocrossing it but other than that, if I was going for the lowrider look, I'd get a truck and do that.

depends on the look and the rim as well as all the other little things.

tire height isn't determined by rim size; you professionals ought to know that by now.

some of you should quit thinking so one dimensional...there's nothing wrong with having a preference but some of you need to quit "brainwashing"people into thinking anything beyond 16's is wrong and 17's only if you must. i agree 20's are a stretch but 18's are fine.

i must say though that i hope the picture of the yellow one is just off. those rims look like they are sticking out of the wells. not good at all.

benefits of an 18 besides the look are the handling and traction....with the proper tire they can be very effective. i wouldn't recommend throwing any real power to them if your using adapters but don't be affraid on the street either. the worst thing is the price if anything. when compared to my stock 16's my 18's are just under 10 pounds less!! that's just over 35 lbs less of rotational weight! but if i cared about that i'd have draglites.

i would not use spacers ever though....adapters you'll be fine. biggest problem is price. lower the car and the right rim will look sharp.

check out thirdgen.org for more pics of cars with 18's....
