12 bolt or 9 inch ??

I really want to get a new rear for my car. right now i have a 2.73 blown posi that spins one wheel like there's no tommorow. and its really holding me back. I am planning on getting as much as I can from this motor N/A. So I want a beefy rear, not a 10 bolt. I am trying to decide on either an aftermarket 12 bolt or a ford 9". I was just wondering which is cheaper and which is stronger. I would rather have the aftermaket 12 bolt. But I need some of your opinions.
Thanks!!

From what I've seen a moser 9" would be stronger, and almost the same cost.

I think 9"s can be made stronger, but I think th 12 bolts can be had a little cheaper. How much power are you planning on having. You may be able to use a 9 bolt and save yourself quite a bit of money.

I am trying to get to low 12's, I am planning to get the holley steath ram setup, new heads, cam, ported to match, injectors, chip, new stage 3 shift kit turbo 350(from my neighbor), a rear with 3.73's,sub frame conn., and some suspension work. Obviously i don't have the money for it all now, but i will get it slowly.

For low 12's, I'd consider the 9-bolt. But if you want either the 9" or 12-bolt I'd get the cheaper of the two. Either one will hold up just fine to low 12's.

I would go with the 9" for the simple reason that you can change the gears on the track and then back to the street gears in a short time.

For the times you plan on running, save yourself a bunch of money and get a Borg Warner 9 bolt. Even if you have to put in a new posi unit, gear set and install kit, it'll still be 1/2 the price of a 12 bolt or Ford 9 inch.

no factory ford rears will work unless you modify them. you need a place for the torque arm to mount

I'd definately go with the Ford 9. They are about the same price as a GM 12 bolt so why not.

dont the 12 bolts weigh more? i would think you'd want something heavier in the rear

For traction purposes? If you're going to be running 10's, you'll probably be running slicks or ET Streets. Slicks/ET Streets = Traction. That weight in the rear won't make too much of a difference. If you still spin, something's screwy. To be honest, I'd go Ford 9" for many reasons including less weight.

Really, I think its mostly just personal preference. Either can be built to just about any pruposes.

The way the gears mesh on a Ford 9" uses more horsepower than a GM 12 bolt.
