Exhaust - Axle-back

Hey guys,

I need some help. For right now, I'm just looking to add an Axle-back for my exhaust. I'm going to wait til next summer to make further upgrades. Which Axle-back is the loudest? Youtube videos aren't cutting it. I have a 2011 SS Camaro-V8.

V8 SLP Loudmouth 1 Axle-Back or the Borla Atak Alxe-Back?

Re: Exhaust - Axle-back

You want just loud? Remove the mufflers. Expect a lot of people to be offering you nasty gestures. Louder doesn't always mean more power or better sounding.

I have a Borla and I am pretty happy with it but it is actually a little too loud for my tastes (when I remove the cats, which is never...depending on who is reading this), but lots of people have had good luck with the SLP.

I have the Borla ATAK and love it. Loud when you want it to be. But if you have an A6 and the AFM not tuned out - you may get some strange sounds.

Re: Exhaust - Axle-back

Hey Jason, I just bought a 2011 ss m6 and the exhaust note is nice, but so quiet. Especially since I'm used to my 97 with a 4 in open downpipe exiting in front of the motor lol. I don't want anything nearly as loud, it's kinda nice being able to gun it in my small town and not have everyone hear it. Does it allow you to keep your warranty if all you do is a catback?

Re: Exhaust - Axle-back

Every situation is different, but typically a warranty is only void if the part that you install has a direct impact on what breaks. They can say the an aftermarket exhaust caused the engine to work harder and make more power if say...a rod gets bent, but hard to prove. They cannot, however, say your exhaust caused the radio to stop working and your warranty is void.

Re: Exhaust - Axle-back

I haven't had a chance to get it over to my friends shop and put it up on the lift. It's neat to see the under belly of newer cars. I need to get it up there and see if it would be possible to swap the mufflers for pipes and leave everything in top condition if I needed to put it back for warranty work. I know my sister has a 2003 Nissan Titan with straight pipe is the only thing behind her cats and it sounds really good, very different from anything else I've ever heard. I wonder how good this will sound with pipes in place of the mufflers and the 6.2

I will have to be careful with my warranty, its the complimentary lifetime one that the dealership has. It may be more strict than the 6 year/100k one.

Do you have any video clips of that borla, Jason?

Re: Exhaust - Axle-back

you can buy, or have installed, strait pipes. ive seen some people do it. dont personally liek the sound. that will get you loud. but it will sound like $hit. if you want a nice deep sound, any exhaust should do that. just depends how much you wanna spen. prices range from 300-1200 bucks.

Re: Exhaust - Axle-back

Just remove the mufflers. The cats & resonator do a good just keeping the the noise somewhat reasonable.

Here's a bunch of exhaust clips on camaro5. Pretty extensive list of setups:

Re: Exhaust - Axle-back

Jason, sounds good, unfortunately I can't afford a borla at this time. Has anybody tried just running the edelbrock x pipe with the stock mufflers? It just gets rid of the resonators. Oh and does exhaust mess with the warranty at all?

Re: Exhaust - Axle-back

James the only problem will be the afm , without the res it drove me insane the sound sucks. I had mine tuned out almost immediatley

A few cheap options:
Flowmaster cat back its 650$ shipped
(sounds pretty good)
My buddy did the edelbrock X with bullet mufflers was very cheap and his car sounds great he originally did straight pipes but the decel popping sucked
SOLO has an affordable kit as well

Re: Exhaust - Axle-back

I have a Pacesetter system with the X pipe that will actually be a little cheaper than the loud mouth and it comes with the x pipe too.

Otherwise I also carry the loud mouth and have that available on sale for the rest of the month.

Click Here for the SLP "Loudmouth" system.

Click Here for the Pacesetter system.

Let me know if you have any questions. The loudmouth comes in square or round tips to work with the factory ground effects.
