Here's why - there also always been quite a bit of brand loyality in the pony car wars. While there also way some individuals that have soft brand loyality and can fairly easily be swayed from Chevy (GM) to Ford. I would guess that at least 60-75% of pony car ales are those that are incredible loyal to one or the other - and therefor would never consider switching to the other.
Can't say I agree with this, at least when talking about the base models. Mainly because how do you explain the camaro outselling the mustang when that hasn't happened for a long time? If people were as brand loyal as you say, the mustang would still be selling more even though the 2010 camaro v6 outclassed the 2010 mustang v6.

Now if we are talking about the camaro ss and mustang gt, I agree to a point although I don't think it is 60-75% of people are loyal to one or the other. For instance, I have seen many people post that they purchased a mustang when the camaro wasn't available between 03-09. Lots of camaro guys also got the 03-04 cobra as well instead of the 02 camaro ss. You would think those people would rather not buy another pony car if the camaro was gone but that wasn't the case (although plenty of people did wait for the 2010 camaro).

ummmmm....actually...NO....
Equinox/Terrain is doing brisk business....Malibu is just fine and getting lots of improvements fast...next few months...Trucks are fine...Cruze is coming...should be a strong entry in small car game...Camaro continues it's march up the charts, ATS (small Caddie) should be a seller next year in the near luxury segment and Rendez Vous and Lacrosse are just plain great products so I dont know what you are reading but I go by the Ford plant in Oakville, Ontario every day and there are THOUSANDS od Edges and MKZ's sitting there unsold for months and Taurus aint setting the world on fire....Ford Dealers have loads of 2010 Mustangs which will be dumped unceremoniously in next 60-90 days at below cost or with massive cash incentives setting up a habit of very low resales on new mustangs ...so before making blanket statements about the state of sales in the car industry you might want to do a fact check....IMHO.
ford is already ahead in 2010 sales:

Cool

GM will be fine Foxbat. Is it not in our interest for both companies to succeed?
improves the breed...I am sure GM is looking at "some" of the Ford successes very carefully...F150-Fusion are standouts....but GM has some rising stars as well which I have just mentioned...Give credit where credit is due...That is all I am saying....

I agree they have some stars indeed, but what concerns me is GM moving too slowly in reaction to Ford's counter-measures. Heck, even once-scorned Hyundai has just put out one of the best 4dr sedans on the road today (Sonata), yet the excellent Malibu does not even had a NAV option.
